Multiple shopping carts were filled to the brim with school supplies Tuesday morning thanks to the generous donations of the Steinbach and area community.

Steinbach Family Resource Centre Executive Director Vicki OlatundunThe yearly fundraiser, held by Staples in Steinbach, gathers donations from the community and Steinbach Family Resource Centre Executive Director Vicki Olatundun says they were able to purchase over $5,000 worth of supplies to help families in the community send their children off to school fully prepared.

"This is a happy day. I'm too busy doing a happy dance because I know that so many more children are going to get the chance to go to school with the right supplies, and the right things they need in school to be successful. That's what it's all about, making our families successful in all they do."

Olatundun says they save some supplies to give to children who are in need of school supplies throughout the school year as well.

"Sometimes we have newcomers to Canada and we can help them there, but also some families have emergencies. Last year we had some families that had their home burn down and we were able to supply the children with all the supplies they needed there."

Staples General Manager Gerald Jeske says his favourite part of the fundraiser is to see the funds raised in the community, stay in the community. Jeske adds a thank you to all who helped support the fundraiser for the 11th year.
