Strains, sprains, and heat-related issues are just a few things the medical team for the 2016 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games have been looking after.

Athletic Therapist Krissi Peters says while there are doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, athletic therapists, chiropractors and massage therapists available to the athletes at each venue, there is also a polyclinic set up at the Steinbach Regional Secondary School men's athlete's village.

"The support from the community has been great," notes Peters.

Physiotherapist Eric Larson adds they want to make sure the athletes are able to compete at 100%.

"There's always some minor injuries and, rather than having them scrambling to find somewhere to get treated, we have this setup," says Larson. "We can take care of any emergencies. It's just to keep everyone healthy and try to alleviate any concerns that parents would have about sending their kids off to an event like this."

Larson adds they have also treated many wasp stings and shin issues with track athletes.
