Niverville town council gave first reading to a borrowing bylaw at their July council meeting that will see the town take out a $189,000 loan to begin work on the downtown water main project.

Niverville Mayor Myron Dyck says the short term loan will be used to pay the bills.

"It is bridge financing so that we can pay the bills as it is ongoing. We are going to be taking collection from property owners over time, but any upfront costs or anything like that, we want to be able to pay the bills."

Dyck says the construction company has told them that work will begin in the next week or two and equipment is already being moved into Niverville. He notes workers may be accessing affected properties to double check connections so that they do not bump into anyone's infrastructure.

Dyck says construction shouldn't have any major effect on traffic flow down Main Street.

"As far as road closure, aside from them maybe needing to move equipment around, but other then maybe a flag person for a time as equipment is operating, the biggest thing is that there will be some parking spots lost until they fill those holes back in and do the resurfacing as part of the remediation once all that other underground stuff is done."

Dyck says they anticipate the project will be complete around mid-September.
