Curling is a big part of the fabric of rural Manitoba, and whenever we get the chance to highlight the great works of those involved with the sport, we take it.

And this morning it's something pretty special. Keith Stoesz from the Altona Curling Club has been named Curling Canada's 2016 Manitoba Volunteer of the Year! Keith was also selected as one of seven finalists for the National Volunteer of the Year award which was given to Gibson, B.C.'s Kate Barratt.

But back to Southern Manitoba, and Keith Stoesz who joined us in studio to reflect on the recognition.

It's volunteers that keep our rural Manitoba curling clubs alive, and we spoke to Keith about that.

We also talked about curling seems to be in a bit of a renaissance in Southern Manitoba, especially after the Scotties being held in Winkler and Altona in recent years.

That's Keith Stoesz from the Altona Curling Club, Curling Canada's 2016 Manitoba Volunteer of the Year. Congratulations and good luck as you and your team plan to host the 2018 Canola Junior Men and Women's provincial championships this coming December.
