Pastor David & Katie Reimer

"It's 50 years Today!"

Pastor David Reimer was rather excited when we talked to him after the 50th Annual Pioneer Days Parade, which took place along Steinbach Main Street - Friday August 3rd.

Pastor David was actually talking about he and his wifes 50th Wedding Anniversary.

"We knew the parade was this weekend, it's always on the August long weekend. When we checked the calendar, we noticed that the parade would take place on August 3rd AND the theme of the Parade was "Golden Anniversary" and we said "That's us too!"

David and Katie Reimer were married on August 3rd 1968. He tells us about it "It was a beautiful day, weather wise, similar to today. We got married in the Elmwood Mennonite Brethern Church in Winnipeg". Along with family and friends they invited about 300 people to the wedding, far cry from the thousands that wished them well today.

Pastor David says, "We are celebrating all through the weekend. Back then, we wouldn't have believed this day would come!" In preparation for the parade he says his wife Katie jokes, "she tried on her dress and couldn't get it to fit properly - the only part of the wedding outfit that did fit was her veil." So she bought a dress and wore her original veil.

Pastor David says being part of the Pioneer Days Parade was wonderful, especially receiving all the congratulations as their horse and carriage drove by. Then when they pointed out to the passersby, that TODAY was their actual Wedding Anniversary, he appreciated their surprised looks and another congratulation.

The 50th Anniversary couple "Thank God for His faithfulness in their lives these many years and to be able to celebrate with family and friends this weekend will be the highlight of their lives."
