Alicia French joined us on the morning show with an update on Maia, her 3 year old daughter who is battling leukemia.

Thank you to everyone who came to support the fundraising BBQ put on by the Steinbach RCMP which raised over $7500!

"We've spent 18 of the last 32 days in Children's Hospital (2 separate stays), which has definitely been hard on our family( we also have 6 month old baby Amelia) but we finally got discharged today! I will be taking an extended indefinite leave from my teaching position at South Oaks School in Grunthal, until Maia is healthier and we don't have constant clinic visits and hospital stays. Rob is back at work, and we work around his schedule the best we can. The Steinbach RCMP detachment has been as accommodating as they can be for us during this unpredictable and stressful time.
Maia has been a very brave little girl. She's had to endure many different tests and procedures that are scary and sometimes painful, and lots of strong medications that make her feel very
sick. She misses her regular life, especially daycare and playing with her friends, but she is handling everything with so much courage and is maintaining her spunky spirit.
We were just so floored and humbled by the support and generosity of this
community. From all the food and supplies that were donated, to the amount of people who came out to the BBQ. You never imagine it will be your child diagnosed with cancer. And then, when it happens the entire world stops spinning for awhile. It is a scary time for us. We are leaning on our faith and the support of family, friends and our community. So many people have stepped up to help take care of us in a variety of ways. There really aren't words to express how thankful we truly are. We thank you for keeping our little girl in your thoughts and prayers as she battles for her life in the coming years. We are hopeful and believe she will be healed.
One thing we have learned is that we definitely aren't the only family in the world of pediatric cancer. In the last month we have met 3 other young children recently diagnosed with leukemia alone, just like Maia. There are many children battling different forms of cancer here as well. These children are amazing little people. We have been blessed beyond belief. If anyone chooses to support us further, we ask that they would donate blood in honour of Maia, or consider donating to Cancer Care Manitoba, specifically for pediatric cancer research or the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. Without these resources, our little girl wouldn't have the hope and prognosis that she does.
Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts!
