With spring break in full swing and Easter around the corner, the Jake Epp Library is keeping local school kids entertained with Easter themed arts and crafts.

Madison Friesen is the Program Coordinator at the Jake Epp Library. She says they held an Eggstravaganza at the library on Tuesday with two different types of egg dyeing, some eggsperiments involving hard-boiled eggs, and some egg themed kids books. She notes they like to combine reading, learning, and crafts.

"I usually pull all of my inspiration from some sort of book. I go into our collection and I look for different craft books with different activities. We have a few experiment books in our young adult section so I actually took some and I dumbed them down for kids and made them easier so that I could do them with the younger ones."

Friesen says they are also having a young adult movie marathon on Wednesday with The Maze Runner, the Scorch Trials, and pizza. She notes on Thursday they will do a family movie day with Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul. She adds with Good Friday coming up she didn’t have quite as many spring break activities.

"Generally, I like to do three to four events and I like to have my spring break full of kids activities and things for families to do here but because Good Friday fell on spring break, it was a little inconvenient because it kind of shortens my week and doesn’t allow for any extra activities."

She does concede that despite shortening her week, it does make planning events like the Eggstravaganza easy.
