Winter wheat and alfalfa crops are doing great in the Southeast thanks to a nice warm blanket of snow.Manitoba Agriculture Farm Production Advisor John McGregor says soil temperatures have only dropped about 2 degrees in the past several weeks while we've endured minus 30 above ground.  Soil temps of minus 23 for winter wheat and minus 12 for alfalfa can hurt the crops.  But so far we are nowhere near the danger mark.  Soil temperature probes in both Steinbach and Marchand indicate the soil is in the minus 2 to minus 3 degree range.
