Motorists driving through Mitchell are experiencing some slight delays these days.

Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure has started work at the intersection of Highway 52 and Ash Street.

A provincial spokesperson says the planned work includes modifying the curbs along the median, which will provide accessible curbs and create a sidewalk through the median.

The work is expected to be completed sometime next month.

According to the province, there may be some short-term closures during construction while workers are on site. However, the project is not expected to have any long-term effects on motorists as the work is intended to improve pedestrian safety.

Pylons have been set up and traffic is down to a single lane in each direction through that intersection. The speed limit is also reduced to 60 kilometres per hour in that area.
