Devil's Lake won the Eagles Men's Fastball Tournament Sunday in Mitchell blanking the Eagles 5-0 in the final. The third place game went to the Winnipeg Masters 10-0 over Notre Dame. The Mitchell Mavericks beat the Grunthal Generals 3-1 in the fifth place game.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes are 31/2 games behind the West Division leading Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks with 13 games left in the first half of the Northern Baseball League schedule. The two teams split were forced to play a twinbill Sunday when Saturday's game was rained out. The RedHawks took the opener 3-0 while the Goldeyes won the second game 4-2. Winnipeg will open a seven-game homestand Monday when they meet the Edmonton Cracker-Cats.

Seven Manitobans were chosen in the 2006 National Hockey League Entry Draft held in Vancouver this past weekend. Jonathan Toews of Winnipeg was picked third overall by the Chicago Blackhawks. Brandon Wheat Kings centre Codey Burki of Winnipeg was selected in the second round by the Colorado Avalanche. Forward Ryan White of Brandon was drafted by Montreal in round three. Goaltender James Reimer of Winnipeg went to Toronto in round four. Forward Ashton Rome of Nesbitt was picked in round five by San Jose. Defenceman Dane Crowley of Winnipeg went to Tampa Bay and forward Eric Hunter of Oakbank went to the New York Rangers in round six. Justin Krueger, the son of the Swiss national team head coach Ralph Krueger was selected by the Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes in round seven.
