The local Ukrainian Slavic Church is opening the doors for everyone to join them this Sunday for a special Thanksgiving service.

It will take place at 2pm at the Mennonite Brethren Church on Second Street in Steinbach.

“All are invited to share in the joy of this year's good harvest in Manitoba, for the peaceful skies over Manitoba,” says Pastor Nikolai Usach. “The opportunity to harvest in Manitoba was facilitated by the peaceful skies over Canada, the absence of hostilities, since the experience of Ukraine showed that the crop can ripen, but due to hostilities it was impossible to harvest it, or agricultural equipment was blown up by mines.”

This event will focus on being grateful for the peace and safety we enjoy in the region, and to show support for families who are seeking the safety of Manitoba.

“The Ukrainian community also intends to thank the Lord that God keeps their lives, the lives of children in peaceful Steinbach,” Usach says. “Today in Ukraine, this is far from the case. So, the hosts intend to recall the example of Pastor Sergei Shchaslivy, who had 7 children, but at the beginning of the war in the Kyiv region, he lost his 7-year-old daughter Anastasia, and 11-year-old daughter Lida was seriously wounded in the head and is still in the process of operations conducted by neurosurgeons.”

Another operation is scheduled for December 5th in Italy.

“After that operation, the entire large family must fly to Canada, since Canada opened visas for them to work and study here,” says Usahc. “They plan to stop in Manitoba. The local community hopes that the people of Steinbach and Manitoba will be able to support financially the flight of Sergei Shchaslivy's family and their adaptation in Manitoba.”
