The La Broquerie Habs Girls U18 A1 team pulled off a championship win earlier this week.

Head Coach Pat Tetrault says this is a special team.

"We have girls from all across the Southeast come together this year to form a team, U18 A1. We have been playing in the Winnipeg League all year and had a championship win against a very strong opponent in the Winnipeg Storm. The girls worked hard and pulled it off.”

Tetrault says the best of five series came to a head on Monday.

“They won the first one and we won the last three. In the last two games, we ended up being down 2-1 going into the third and having to squeak out come-from-behind victories. [Monday] we scored our tying goal with about five minutes left and then capped it off with another goal to end it with 1:30 left in the third so pretty exciting times. The girls were going pretty wild for sure.”

Many of the players didn’t even know each other going into the season and Tetrault says this makes the win even sweeter.

“We have a pretty good core out of La Broquerie but in general had a bunch of new girls come together and form a union to be able to compete and ended up winning a championship, it is pretty special for sure.”

Tetrault says this championship also bodes well for the future.

“Obviously, winning is fun. We have got four girls that are moving on as over-agers. Next year, keeping that core group together is going to be ideal but who knows what the future holds for us but it is always a great feeling to win, going into the next year knowing that you have a championship team on your hands for sure.”
