A piece of farmland along the south side of Loewen Boulevard, west of Hershfeld Road in Steinbach, is in the process of being redesignated from agricultural to residential.City Council this week gave second reading to the change in its development plan.  The amendment must now go to the province for approval before coming back to the city for third reading.  Some residents of Ash Grove lane in Deerfield Estates appeared before council with concerns about the proposed development.  They says roads in the area are already in bad shape from too much traffic and want to make sure there is proper drainage.  Mayor Chris Goertzen says those matters will be addressed at a future public hearing when the developer presents a specific plan.  He adds council is well aware of the condition of the roads, noting it would cost a lot of money to pave them, but he expects more discussion about that in the coming year.
