Local masons are thrilled with a new system of laying blocks that's totally new to Canada.
The expansion at Brown's Plumbing and Heating in Steinbach is using a type of masonry construction that has never before been used in Canada. It's called the Pentstar system. Ron Schalla with Integrity Design in Steinbach says this system is cheaper but a quicker way of laying concrete blocks. The blocks come with built-in insulation and weep cavity for water drainage. The system has been used the last four years for constructing churches and schools in the U.S. and is only now available in Canada. Schalla says local engineers and masons stood in awe when introduced to the new system earlier this year.
