There was a large fire this morning at the water plant in Marchand.

La Broquerie Fire Chief Al Nadeau says they were called out at around one o'clock Wednesday morning, after a neighbour reported unknown flames. Crews arrived to find a large shop behind the factory, fully involved.

Nadeau says at that point there was little they could do, but make sure the fire stayed contained. He notes they had help from fire departments in both Woodridge and Giroux.

"It's fortunate that everything is still kind of green around," notes Nadeau. "So, nothing was really moving around too much."

Nadeau says the shop, which was about 150 feet by 50 feet in size, is a total loss. He notes it was used mostly for storage and contained cardboard and bottles in addition to a couple of forklifts.

The shop stood about 50 yards from the factory, which Nadeau says was not touched in the fire.

The Office of the Fire Commissioner is on scene investigating the cause of the fire. A damage estimate has not yet been provided.

Nadeau says most of their crews cleared the scene at about 7:30 am. He notes there were no injuries.
