Vita is getting ready for big celebrations this year for Canada Day and organizers are bringing back a fun racing event.

This marks the 25th anniversary of special events in the community for Canada's birthday.

The July long weekend will be jam-packed with a variety of events and Barry Kehler invites everyone to get their lawnmowers tuned up for some fun.

“We’re going to be having some lawnmower races here,” he says. “It's going to be a great event. It hasn't been around in the community for quite a while, so we're looking forward to hosting it and getting some interest in the surrounding communities also.”

There is a lot more to racing lawnmowers than one might think. From having a proper racetrack to sorting out the rules, organizers need to know a variety of information.

Kehler says it was great to get help from members of the Beausejour Lawnmower Racing Club.

“They were just a fantastic bunch of guys there,” he says. “There was two of them that actually came out here and discussed the lawn mower racing and the regulations with us.”

There was also collaboration with designing the track for Vita’s races.

“It was really interesting chatting with those guys there,” says Kehler. “It was really nice of them to come out here.”

Kehler says the lawnmower races are open to competitors from every community.

The race will take place on June 30th and registration is now open.

Canadian Wrestling’s Elite will also put on a two-hour event, visiting Vita for the first time.

Other activities include a softball tournament, bubble soccer, gymkhana, and a chainsaw carving demonstration.
