Justice Minister Vic Toews has given us more information about his government's move to get rid of the long gun registry.  He was happy to second this bill to abolish the registry.  Toews says the legislation goes back to what was in place before the registry came into play.  Under the new system long gun owners would still be required to get a license and a background check but would not have to register each gun.  Toews says in speaking with responsible long gun owners, they agree with this approach.
