Eastbound traffic on Highway 1 was backed up for much of the late afternoon and early evening this Wednesday.

According to RCMP, emergency services were called to a single-vehicle collision at 3:03 PM at the intersection of Highway 1 and Heatherdale Road.

Police say “A driver had a medical incident and went off the road, through the ditch, and onto the train tracks.”

The severity of the injuries and the result of the medical incident are not yet known.

RCMP had all trains stopped to ensure the scene of the collision could be handled safely. The Highway itself was never closed, however, with the number of first responders on scene, police say traffic was down to one lane and quite backed up.

Emergency services were able to leave the scene of the incident before 6 PM.
