This years Steinbach Skimmers swim club.

The swimming offseason is over, and the Steinbach Skimmers have competed in their first swim meet of the year.

The Skimmers had a strong start to the year, as several club records were broken.  Nine year old Gavin Reimer was amongst those who set club records, and he describes his goals for the year.

"I want to go to Man-Sask," he notes.  "And I want to get a 13 year-old Provincial time, two of them."

Reimer picked up five first place finishes and one second place, but he wasn't the only Skimmer to see success at the first meet of the year.

"I felt pretty good, I thought I'd be focused on just swimming and not placing," says Amy Peters, who finished fourth three times, second twice and first once.  "But the fact I did place is pretty exciting."

For the first meet of the year, many of the Skimmers were pleasantly surprised with how they did.

"I think I did fairly well," describes Kendall Reimer.  "I didn't get any Provincial times, but I was second off one of them so I think that was pretty good for the first meet of the year."

After a very successful year last year that saw her pick up four provincial gold medals, Victoria Belanger is moving up from 'A' to the 'AA' level.  Reaching the 'AA' level was one of Belanger's goals, and she notes she was excited to both reach that level and compete in the first meet of the year.

"Just swimming with all my friends was really fun," Belanger explains.  "Just getting back in the water and actually swimming.  I just love the competitions because of the competitiveness of it and my coaches make it a lot of fun."

The Skimmers second meet of the year is on December 6th and 7th.
