Steinbach Pistons forward Ty Paisley has been invited to Team Canada West's selection camp which will be held December 5th - 7th in Cornwall. The 18-year-old Steinbach native is one of three Manitobans who will attend camp. The others are goaltender Andrew Ness of Winnipeg who plays for the Fort McMurray Oil Barons and defenseman Sam Court of Winnipeg who plays for the Brooks Bandits. Morden's Trent Crane, who plays for the Summerside Western Capitals, was named to the Team East selection camp roster. Winkler Flyers head coach and general manager Justin Falk has been named the head coach for Team West. The 2022 World Junior A Hockey Challenge will take place from December 11th - 18th in Cornwall.


The Ile des Chenes Northstars and Warren Mercs were winners in the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League Thursday night. Tyler Swerdyliak scored a power play goal 4:17 into overtime to lift Ile des Chenes past Notre Dame 4-3. Jordan Weir, Riley Beauchemin and Braeden Binda also scored for the Northstars. Eli Carels, Bobby McNair and Kyle Rous replied for the Hawks. Rous' goal 78 seconds left in regulation tied the game at 3-3. The Mercs scored four unanswered goals in the first period en route to a 7-3 victory over Altona. Drake Lindsay had a pair of goals for the defending SEMHL champions while the rest went to Eric Swanson, Kyle Luschinski, Chase Faulkner, Kyle Lundale and Brenden Luschinski. Braydon MacDonald chipped in with three assists. Adam Henry, Tristen Dueck and Justin Voth replied for the Maroons.


Jocelyne Larocque of Ste. Anne, Ashton Bell of Deloraine and Kristen Campbell of Brandon are on Canada's roster to the play the second leg of the Rivalry Series, December 15th - 19th in Henderson, Nevada and Los Angeles, California. Bell, who is into her final season with the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs, did not play the first three games of the series which were won by the Americans in Kamloops, Kelowna and Seattle. Larocque and Campbell were on Team Canada's roster for the opening three games. The cross-border rivals will play two additional matchups in Canada in early 2023. Host locations will be announced in the coming months.


Steinbach Regional will face the St. Paul's Crusaders Monday night in Winnipeg in the final of the Provincial AAAA High School varsity boys volleyball championship. The Sabres swept Vincent Massey 25-18, 25-22, 25-23 at the University of Manitoba's Investors Group Athletic Centre. The Crusaders beat Lord Selkirk 25-22, 26-24, 18-25. 25-21 in the other semifinal.


It's day two of the Provincial A, AA and AAA High School Varsity Volleyball Championships. Pointe des Chenes is at the A boys championship in Elm Creek. The Cavaliers lost to Glenboro and will face Hamiota, Alonsa/McCreary and Gilbert Plains today. The A girls championship is in Gretna. The AA championships are in The Pas. Gabrielle Roy girls beat the Hapnot Kopper Queens of Flin Flon and Virden. Les Roy will face Green Valley and Rosenort today. The Pirates lost to Rosenort and Hapnot. Gabrielle Roy boys beat Immanuel Christian and Carberry. Les Roy will meet Boissevain and Major Pratt today. Landmark boys defeated the host Margaret Barbour Spartans and William Morton of Gladstone. The 96ers will face Hapnot and Rosenort today. The Lorette Scorpions are at the AAA girls championship in Neepawa. The Scorpions lost to Sanford and Westgate. Lorette will play its final round robin game today against Neelin. The AAA boys championship is in Steinbach. The host Steinbach Christian Flames defeated Westwood and John Taylor. The Flames play their final round robin game today against Neelin. Lorette beat the Edward Schreyer Barons of Beausejour and lost to Leo Remillard. The Scorpions face R.D Parker of Thompson today. The Barons beat R.D. Parker and will play their final round robin game against Leo Remillard.


Canada fell 2-1 to Morocco in its final Group Stage match at the 2022 World Cup. Canada lost all three games in Qatar. Canada will co-host the 2022 World Cup with the United States and Mexico.
