The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed American offensive linemen Ryan Nelson and Tyler Witt to the practice roster. Nelson joins the Bombers after a four-year college career with the Virginia Cavaliers. The Buena Park, California native started an impressive 49 straight games beginning in 2018. Witt spent one season with the Purdue Boilermakers and the previous three with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. Winnipeg also released American defensive back Tyquwan Glass. The Bombers, who have started the 2022 CFL season with three straight wins, meet the Argonauts in Toronto on Monday.


The host schools for the 2022-23 MHSAA Provincial High School Varsity Basketball Championships have been announced. The varsity championships will be held in Glenboro for A girls & Grandview for A boys; Souris for AA girls & Virden for AA boys; R.D. Parker Collegiate in Thompson will host the AAA boys & girls and Zone 15 (KPAC) will host the AAAA championships.


The Carillon Sultans recorded a win and two losses Thursday night at Charleswood Park. Carillon lost 13-12 to the Winnipeg South Wolves in the completion of a suspended game from May 25th that was tied 11-11 and called due to darkness at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach. The two teams then split the scheduled doubleheader. The Sultans won the opener 6-5 and the Wolves took the second game 6-1. Carillon will play a twinbill against the Altona Bisons Sunday at A.D. Penner Park.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes dropped a 4-3 decision to the American Association’s West Division leading Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks. Max Murphy had three hits including a pair of triples for the Fish who wrapped up their six-game homestand with four wins and two losses. Winnipeg will open a four-game series against the Explorers in Sioux City tonight.
