The Ste. Anne Aces are South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League champions. Playoff MVP Brenden Walker scored three times as Ste. Anne defeated the Morden Bombers 5-3 in the deciding seventh game of the final. Keith Grondin and Miguel Rondeau also scored for the visiting Aces who rallied from a 0-3 series deficit. Jory Mullin, Jaden Townsend and Adam Hughesman replied for the Bombers.


Dawson Milliken had a goal and an assist as the Steinbach Pistons edged the Winkler Flyers 3-2 at the Centennial Arena and evened the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s best-of-seven East Division semifinal at a game apiece. Travis Hensrud and Ethan Johnson also scored for the Pistons. The Niverville Nighthawks lost 5-2 to the Portage Terriers who lead that series two games to none.


The Brandon Wheat Kings season came to an end Saturday night. Conor Geekie had three goals and two assists as the Winnipeg Ice defeated Brandon 5-3. Rylen Roersma, Roger McQueen and Calder Anderson scored for the Wheat Kings. The Ice will meet the Medicine Hat Tigers in the opening round of the Western Hockey League playoffs.


The Winnipeg Jets fell 4-1 to the Los Angeles Kings. Pierre-Luc Dubois had the lone goal for the Jets who wrap up their three-game California road trip Tuesday against the San Jose Sharks.


Canada’s Kerri Einarson will meet Sweden’s Anna Hasselborg in the bronze medal game (3 a.m.) at the 2023 World Women’s Curling Championship in Sandviken, Sweden. Einarson, Val Sweeting, Shannon Birchard and Briane Harris beat Satsuki Fujisawa of Japan 6-4 in a qualification game and then lost 8-5 to Marianne Roervik of Norway in the semifinals. Roervik will face Silvana Tirinzoni of Switzerland in the gold medal game.


Kadriana Lott & Colton Lott lost 8-6 to Lisa Weagle & John Epping in the opening round of the playoffs at the Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Sudbury, Ontario. Jennifer Jones & Brent Laing will meet Rachel Homan & Tyler Tardi and Jocelyn Peterman & Brett Gallant will take on Brittany Tran & Aaron Sluchinski in the semifinals.


The Canadian Junior Curling Championships begin today in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. Four Manitoba teams are competing, and they include provincial champions Jordon McDonald & Zoey Terrick and provincial finalists Jace Freeman and Grace Beaudry.


Defending champion Randy Neufeld of La Salle is 6-0 and in first place in the Asham Group while Dave Boehmer of Petersfield is 6-0 and leads the Asham Express Group heading into the final day of round robin play at the Provincial Senior Men's Curling Championship in Dauphin. Defending champion Terry Ursel of Neepawa is 6-0 and Joelle Brown of Charleswood is 5-1 at the Provincial Senior Women's Championship which is also in Dauphin.
