Dave Boehmer of Petersfield and Joelle Brown of Charleswood won the Provincial Senior Curling Championships Monday afternoon in Dauphin. Boehmer, Dale Lott, Sean Bracken and George Hacking got two in the fifth and stole single points in the sixth, seventh and eighth ends and beat Randy Neufeld of La Salle 6-5 in the men's final. Brown, Maureen Bonar, Natalie Claude and Allyson Bell downed Terry Ursel of Neepawa 5-3 in the women's final. The 2023 Canadian Senior Championships will be held December 4th-10th in Vernon. B.C. 


Jordon McDonald and Jace Freeman both have 3-0 records heading into day three of the Canadian Junior Curling Championships in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. McDonald defeated Dallas Burgess of Northern Ontario 12-9 and Leandre Girard of Quebec 8-6. Freeman beat James Ballance of Alberta 7-3 and Thomas Reed of British Columbia 11-2. Zoey Terrick has a 2-0 record and Grace Beaudry is 1-1. Terrick downed Allyson MacNutt of Nova Scotia 5-3 while Beaudry beat Ella Lenentine of Prince Edward Island 9-2. 


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed American placekicker Chandler Staton. The Gainesville, Georgia native comes to Winnipeg after a collegiate career with the Appalachian State Mountaineers (2017-21) that earned him a look from the Green Bay Packers last year as an undrafted free agent. Staton connected on 64 of 81 field goals (79 %) during his days at Appalachian State, with a career best of 53 yards, and left as the school’s career leader in points (464), field goals (64), and field goal percentage. He also set a school record by converting on 20 of 21 field goal attempts in his final season while being named a First-team All-Sun Belt Conference, a Pro Football Network First-Team All-American and a semi-finalist for the Groza Award as the nation’s top kicker.


The Winnipeg Jets signed forward Parker Ford to a two-year, entry-level contract with an average annual value in the NHL of $925,000. His deal will begin in 2023-24 and he has signed an amateur tryout contract with the Manitoba Moose, who he will join for the remainder of the season. Ford, 22, recently completed his senior season with the Providence College Friars in Hockey East where he recorded 26 points (12G, 14A) and 22 penalty minutes in 37 games. The Wakefield, RI native captained the Friars in 2022-23 and led the team in goals (12) and points (26), while finishing as a Hockey East Third Team All-Star. Ford played 131 games over his four seasons with Providence College and recorded 94 points (41G, 53A) and 89 PIMs. Internationally, Ford represented Team USA at the 2020 World Junior Hockey Championships and played five games.

The Provincial Senior Curling Championships wrapped up Monday in Dauphin. 2023 senior women's champion Joelle Brown will join Clayton Dreger on This Week in Curling which airs Tuesdays at 5:15 p.m. on AM 1250 Radio.
