Steinbach Pistons forward Travis Hensrud is a Manitoba Junior Hockey League Star of the Week. The 20-year-old Thunder Bay native had three goals and two assists in Steinbach's wins over the Winnipeg Freeze, OCN Blizzard and Selkirk Steelers. Hensrud, who also potted the shootout winner in the Pistons victory over the Steelers on Sunday at the T.G. Smith Centre, is second in league scoring with five goals and four assists in five games. 


Kyle Connor, Adam Lowry, Blake Wheeler, Nikolaj Ehlers, Josh Morrissey, Mark Scheifele and Connor Hellebuyck will make their pre-season debuts tonight as the Winnipeg Jets meet the Ottawa Senators at Canada Life Centre. The Jets lost their exhibition opener 4-0 to the Edmonton Oilers Sunday at Rogers Place. 


The Altona Curling Club will host CurlManitoba's Provincial U18 Boys and Girls Championships from December 27th-31st. The winners and finalists will qualify for the 2023 Canadian U18 Championships February 6th-11th in Timmins, Ontario. The Altona Curling Club has previously hosted the 2004 Provincial Masters Women's Championship; the 2007 Provincial Senior Women's Championship; the 2011 Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the 2014 Provincial Mixed Curling Championship; the 2015 Provincial Senior Men's Championship and the 2018 Provincial Junior Men's & Junior Women's Championships. 


The B.C. Lions, who struggled in Saturday's 25-11 loss to the Calgary Stampeders, have lost one of their biggest offensive weapons. The CFL team confirmed Monday afternoon that veteran receiver Bryan Burnham suffered a fractured wrist and will be placed on the six-game injured list this week. The Lions remain hopeful that both Burnham and injured quarterback Nathan Rourke will return in time for the playoffs. B.C. will host the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who face Saskatchewan Friday night at IG Field, lead the West Division with a 12-2 and will clinch a home playoff game with a victory over the Roughriders or if Calgary loses to the Toronto Argonauts at home on Saturday. The Lions are in second place at 9-4 while the Stampeders are 9-5.
