The Tache Fire Department performed a grain rescue just east of Landmark Thursday morning.

Fire Chief Allen Rau says they were called to a farm on Municipal Road 30 East at 9:14 A.M. He notes they were told a rescue was required.

“When we arrived, we found out that it was an individual that was trapped in grain. We extricated him from the grain and prepared a landing zone for STARS who did arrive, however, they did not have to transport the individual who went by road ambulance.”

Rau says he isn’t sure how severely the individual was injured, but he does know that it was not a fatal incident.

In the summer of 2021, Rau says his team participated in a 2-day grain rescue program called BeGrainSafe. He notes that training paid off.

“It did come in handy, the guys knew exactly what to do and how to do it so that the rescuers, as well as the rescuee, were kept in a safe condition and space.”

In total, Rau says Tache firefighters were at the farm for about 45 minutes.
