The canola harvest in southeastern Manitoba is about 2 weeks ahead of schedule.  Pioneer Hi-Bred Seed Rep. Marc Hutlet says the hot, dry weather has damaged canola crops and they are literally feeling the heat.  Hutlet hosted about 50 growers at a field tour Tuesday south of Landmark.  Much of the crop damage was done when the plants were in bloom.  The field Hutlet looked at could easily have produced an additional 5 to 15 bushels per acre this year if there had been more rain at flowering time.  As it stands now, some of the canola in southeastern Manitoba has turned and harvest could begin very soon.
