Steinbach City Councillor Art Rempel thinks council should be more consistent in dealing with applications under the zoning category called residential small lot or RSL. It was designed to stimulate affordable housing in new neighborhoods.  But some residents with large corner lots in older neighborhoods have been using it to apply to subdivide their property.  This past week, council denied one such application at the corner of Stonebridge Crossing and Home Street because neighbors objected.  Yet they allowed another at Goosen and Wilson where there was no objection.  Rempel wants a consistent policy, regardless of what the neighbors say.  But Deputy Mayor Dwight Reimer says each application is unique and it's important council take neighbor's concerns into account.  Land Use and Permits Chair Chris Goertzen feels council must take great care in these decisions so it maintains the integrity of older neighborhoods.
