A spokesperson for the Ukrainian Settlement Task Force says some of the 300 refugees expected to land in Manitoba next week will be coming to the Southeast.

On Tuesday, the province released a statement saying one of three federally arranged chartered flights to transport Ukrainian refugees to Canada will be coming to the Winnipeg Richardson International Airport with approximately 300 people sometime next week.

Chris Goertzen co-chairs the Ukrainian Settlement Task Force with Denis Vassart. He notes the announcement really kicked their team into gear.

"It is news that we knew was coming but we were caught off guard a little bit because that is a lot of people, and we know that some of them will be residing here in the Southeast or will be with host families in the Southeast. And we want to make sure that that transition is a little bit smoother than if we weren't there."

especially to those who are in crisis."
