Former Steinbach Piston Jonah Wasylak and Manitoba Bison teammate Brett Stovin have taken the initiative to cut their hair for the Cancer Care Society.
“I've had long hair for quite a bit and Brett started growing his hair last year.” Jonah explained. “At the time it was just 'let's grow it out and see how long we can get it' and then the thought occurred, when we wanted to get rid of it, we could get rid of it for a good cause. So we came up with the idea to cut it and donate it to cancer and in the process also raise some money.”
The event is on Friday, February 10th. Jonah and Brett will cut their hair in the morning at the University of Manitoba, and come evening, Cancer Care Society will be setting up a booth during the game and doing a cheque presentation.
“Cancer's a big thing, a lot of families are affected by it.” Brett said. “Personally, every one of my grandparents have had some sort of cancer, whether they've beat it or not. We had one of our teammates this year, one of his family members was diagnosed with cancer and they fought it all year. It was just one of those things where we wanted to step up and do something for our families and for all the other families out there.”
