The combination of gained daylight hours and warmth escalates the stimulus to “think green”. As our thoughts turn to all shades lime, khaki, avocado, jade, olive and of course emerald green; it is fitting for the celebration of March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day. A colour chosen to signify a historic event. Just as quickly, the association makes our mind think of the plant – Shamrocks. Known also as clover, these soft clustered plants are quick to spread where planted. They are gaining popularity for use in mixed container plantings. Not just green anymore, but also found in burgundy wine, two tone greens with pinks and silvers. Try them in hanging baskets!
Snow still covers these plants at this time of year, but come spring you may find the anomaly of a four- leaf clover – giving you “the luck of the Irish”.
