The Steinbach Pistons were defeated on Tuesday night by the Portage Terriers, ending the Pistons dreams of an MJHL Championship.

Both teams looked tentative in the opening period as both clubs looked as though they were trying to not make any mistakes. Despite a few turnovers on the bluelines, the teams skated to a scoreless draw in the opening 20 minutes.

In the second period, with a Pistons power play expiring, the Terriers player jumped out of the penalty box and went in on a breakaway scoring the opening goal of the game.

Or so everyone thought.

After a brief conference between the officials, it was ruled that Portage had "an inelligiable player" and the goal was disallowed. It was unclear if the Terriers player played the puck before totally coming out of the penalty box or if he was let out a second or two earlier then he should have been.

Portage would officially get the scoring started on the power play and that one goal would turn out to be all they needed. After the Terriers made it 2-0, the Pistons headed into the third period facing an uphill climb.

Steinbach gave it all they had but they fell short, losing game 6 2-0 and the series 4-2.

"Dissappointing." Paul Dyck said of how the season came to an end. "A couple of games, a thing or two goes different and it's a different conversation. But, that's the game of hockey."

The Steinbach Pistons graduating players for 2016/17 are Joseph Leonidas, Wyatt Hinson, Landon Plett, Roman Bengert, Ryan Carlson and captain Jordan Bochinski.
