Steinbach Athletic Therapist Dave Blatz was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. Blatz is the athletic therapist for Team Canada and was inducted as part of the team that won the gold medal at the 2015 Pan Am Games. He adds it was a special ceremony.

"We were very fortunate to get inducted with other inductees such as Ray Carter, who was President of Baseball Canada for the past 16 years and then a couple of players who will probably be enshrined in Cooperstown (the Baseball Hall of Fame) in the next little bit; Vladimir Guerrero, who used to play with the (Montreal) Expos and Roy Halladay, who was with the (Toronto) Blue Jays."

Blatz says he finds it a real treat to listen to the stories shared by the players.

"Each guy gave us a little bit of their time and, being a baseball person, you sit on the edge of your seat listening to every single thing they have to say. And other Blue Jays alumni and Expos Alumni show up at these things like Tim Raines, Tony Fernandez, Tom Henke, all the old names from the glory days. It's fun just listening to all the stories and being in that company."

Blatz was previously inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame with the team that won Pan Am Games gold in 2011. He has been with the team for more than 15 years now and says there are many wonderful memories.

"Ernie Whitt said it best that all the players are great. They leave their egos at the door. We have former major leaguers, current major leaguers playing with us. They don't play for the name on their back, they play for the crest on their chest."

The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame is located in St. Mary's, Ontario, 170 kilometres west of Toronto.
