Camille Enns of Linden and Kate Gregoire of Ste. Anne have committed to the University of Manitoba Bisons Women's Hockey Team for the 2019-2020 year.

The Bisons squad just came off of winning season where they captured the Canada West title as well as the national championship.

Enns, also not unfamiliar with winning, was the home captain of the AAA Eastman Selects this past year who won the Manitoba Female AAA Midget Hockey League title. The 17-year-old right defenceman is going into her fourth year with the team noting she age advanced in her second year of bantam. Enns started playing hockey at the age of 10 and at the time played on the boys team. Hard work and dedication are not things Enns shy's away from, she explains that early on she did not make the team she wanted so it pushed her to work at it and come back stronger the next year. "There was this thing called ABC hockey and I wanted to make A but I made C and that made me super mad so that whole year I dedicated myself to getting better at stick handling, at shooting and just getting better. the next year I made the A team, as I wanted to, and then just proceeded from there. It's been a journey and a half."

Enns describes herself as an offensive-minded defenseman who is always on the lookout for a lane to shoot or ways to set up teammates to score. She says it's her shot that got the attention of the U of M scouts adding she has one of the hardest slap, snap or wrist shots in the MFMHL.

Familiar faces is one other thing Enns adds will be comforting when she enters the Bisons dressing room next year noting that Steinbach's Lauren Warkentin, who is a former Selects captain, will be entering her third year at that time. "It definitely helps with the nerve-racking feel of it," notes Enns, "it's super strange to be going into university and playing with other girls so when you have those familiar faces like Lauren, who is two years older than me, but she's been a big role model and it's super nice to be able to play with her again."

Enns and Gregoire are no strangers to each other either. The two go back to when they were five years old and played ringette together. Gregoire is now going into her third year with the St. Mary's Academy Flames in Winnipeg where she lead the team with 47 points in 49 games last year. The small speedy forward says this year she will be working on strength and the ability to make quick decisions on the ice. Gregoire notes it is a great feeling knowing that this successful organization is looking to have her join their squad.

"It's definitely an honour that they asked me if I wanted to join their great organization. It [will] be big shoes to fill definitely because they just won a national championship and the Can West Championship and I think it should be a great experience and I'm looking forward to it."

Gregoire also plays golf at the provincial level and hopes to maybe crack a spot on the Bisons women's golf team as well. Gregoire adds being able to live at home while she attends university will also be a big bonus as well as having her friends and family nearby to come support her at home games.

Enns and Gregoire are both in their final year of high school, Enns at College Regional Gabrielle-Roy in Iles Des Chenes and Gregoire at St. Mary's Academy, and they will suit up for the Bisons in fall of 2019.
