The Winnipeg Jets didn't lose four games in a row all season - until Sunday afternoon.

Winnipeg native Ryan Reaves redirected a point shot from Luca Sbisa past Connor Hellebuyck at 13:21 of the third period as Vegas defeated the Jets 2-1 at Bell MTS Place.

The expansion Golden Knights took the NHL’s best-of-seven Western Conference final four games to one.

“Hearing the boos after I scored was probably my favourite moment of the series,” said Reaves whose dad Willard played five seasons in the CFL with the Blue Bombers. “It’s been a little weird. I have a couple of cousins who came in Jets jerseys and a best friend that came in a white t-shirt so they’re going to hear about that after. It was fun. My mom and my dad have been watching the series and I’m glad I got to do it in front of them.”

Alex Tuch gave Vegas a 1-0 lead 5:11 into the first period.

Jets defenseman Josh Morrisey got the equalizer as he blasted a slapshot past Golden Knights goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury with 3:46 left in the opening frame.

Fleury shut the door the rest of the way and finished the afternoon with 31 saves in game five.

After scoring four goals in the series opener, Winnipeg managed just six goals in the next four games.

“Fleury played well,” said Jets forward Paul Stastny. “Once they got the lead they did a good job of almost playing a trapping game and forcing us to do too much ourselves. Sometimes we got into trouble – one guy trying to go through five guys and that never works. Later in the game everyone tries to do a little bit extra. You’re trying so hard for each other and sometimes that’s the worst thing to do.”

The Golden Knights will face either the Tampa Bay Lightning or Washington Capitals in the Stanley Cup finals.

“You invest not just in the season but in the summers as well now so it’s very difficult to find that positive feeling at this moment and that will continue for quite sometime,” said Winnipeg head coach Paul Maurice. “At some point over the summer you’ll start to put an eye toward next season and try to recapture some of the things that were so very good for our club but it will be some time before we delve into that.”
