The Eastman Jr Pistons played in the Portage Cup this past weekend in Portage la Prairie and came out as champions. This tournament brings in regional teams from across Manitoba and Saskatchewan as an extended Spring season and an opportunity to play with other kids from their respective regions.

The Jr Pistons started off the tournament on Friday with a 9-4 win over Pembina Valley and then a 5-3 win over the East Central Selects from Saskatchewan Friday evening.

The Jr Pistons started off Saturday with a 7-2 win over the Central Plains Kings and then punched their way into the gold medal game on Sunday morning with a win over Interlake.

The stage was set for a classic showdown with the only two undefeated teams in the tournament. Brandon came out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first period. Eastman answered back late in the first period and then kept that momentum going into the second period. Eastman scored twice early in the second and then again last to make it 4-3.

It was a back and forth game with Brandon tying it at 4 a few minutes later and Eastman going up 5-4 again late in the third period. With only 1:30 left in regulation, Brandon put one past the Eastman goalie which then sent the game to a 3-on-3 overtime. It didn't take long from there as Tristan Cousineau and Zach Lansard broke off the opening face off and entered the Brandon zone.

Cousineau won the battle off the wall and Landsard took off to the net putting the 6th and final goal in for the championship only 22-seconds into overtime.

That wraps up the extended season for the JR Pistons with two gold medals from the two tournaments they attended.
