Two of the Steinbach Regional Secondary School's most decorated volleyball coaches shared centre stage Saturday at the 2017 Coaching Manitoba IMPACT Awards and Recognition Presentations in Winnipeg.

SRSS varsity boys volleyball coach Henry Kasdorf was the recipient of the Peter Dick Award which salutes the work of coaches in the school system.

The award is named after the iconic Steinbach Regional coach who spent 26 years coaching volleyball, badminton, softball and track & field at the SRSS and is a member of the Manitoba High School Athletic Association's Hall of Fame.

"It's a little surreal," Kasdorf told AM 1250 morning show co-host Michelle Sawatzky who was the Master of Ceremonies for the 2017 Coaching Manitoba IMPACT Awards and Recognition Presentations. "It's an amazing event and winning an award with Pete's name associated with it is such an honour for me. It's hard to express what it all means."

Kasdorf's volleyball teams have been in the MHSAA Top 10 “AAAA” ranking for 10 straight years.

Under the SRSS coach's guidance the Sabres won the Provincial “AAAA” high school championship in 2014 and a number his players have taken their game to the next level including Eric Loeppky of the national champion Trinity Western Spartans who was named the Canada West & U Sports Rookie of the Year.

Kasdorf, Trevor Penner of Souris School and Jeff Scarcello of Lord Selkirk Regional Secondary School were the three finalists for the Peter Dick Award.
