Home ice was a definite advantage for the Red River Mudbugs this past weekend.

The Mudbugs, who beat St. Adolphe 5-1 on Friday night, defeated the Hawks 7-2 Sunday afternoon in St. Jean and now lead the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League’s best-of seven final two games to none.

Tristen Dueck and Russ Unrau scored eight seconds apart late in the second period to give Red River a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.

The Mudbugs would add four more goals in the third period.

Dueck had a pair of goals in game two while the rest went to Unrau, Steven Baker, Derek Mazinke, Austin Gilmore and Brett Mazinke.

Troy Lehmann chipped in with three assists.

Curtis Metzler had both goals for St. Adolphe.

Red River goaltender Gavin Klassen made 50 saves and Hawks netminder Eric Trudeau faced 44 shots.

The series shifts to St. Adolphe for game three on Wednesday and game four on Saturday.
