The Niverville Atom A hockey team capped off a terrific season by winning the Provincial Atom AA title in Portage La Prairie last weekend.

The Clippers went into the tournament white hot finishing undefeated in the final five weeks of the season which included the Eastman playoffs as well as the Provincial Championships.

The opening game saw a torrid back and forth affair with a lot of goals but when the dust settled, it was the Clippers coming out on top over the Winkler Flyers by a score of 8-6.

After opening with a win, the Clippers ran into a power house team from Brandon but the Clippers came away with a huge 4-1 win, cementing them as a top tier team.

The final round robin game, Niverville fell behind but showed no quit. Down 4-2 with only five minutes to go in the third, the Clippers powerful quick-strike offence flexed their impressive muscles as they scored a pair of goals only 30 second apart to tie the game. In the final minute, Niverville would score again to grab a 5-4 lead showing they can dominate teams or play the role of come back kids.

The win clinched top spot in the division.

On Sunday, the Clippers beat Eastman rivals Mitchell Mohawks 5-2 to advance to the finals against a very strong team representing the RM of MacDonald who had also won their regional championship banner.

The Clippers had played the MacDonald team at the very beginning of the season, falling 4-2 in a close match, setting up for another tight game for the final.

The game saw each team exchange the lead several times.  Macdonald scored early in the 2nd period to go up 3-2, before the Clippers went on a run scoring 3 unanswered goals in the 2nd period to go up 5-3.

In the 3rd The Clippers scored one more goal and shut down the team from MacDonald for the remainder of the third period take the title.

Coach Ray Dowse couldn't have been more proud of his team and the year they had. "As coaches, from the beginning of the season we knew we had a special group to work with this year. We are extremely proud of the way this team worked together & the huge effort the players brought to the rink day in and day out, all season long. This weekend the kids truly left everything they had on the ice & played a great team game."
