Both the men's and women's volleyball teams at Providence University College are looking to enter the playoffs in the top spot of the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference.

Last weekend in Brandon the Pilots men won twice against the Assiniboine Community College Cougars recording straight-sets on both Friday and Saturday.

“We have been focusing on a couple of areas this past week, and I thought we came out and executed much better in those areas,” says head coach Scott Masterson. “We seem to be focused on the big picture of getting to a certain level of play at the right time of year, and this past weekend was a significant step forward in that direction.”

The Pilots women also swept their weekend series at ACC in straight sets.

In basketball, the men and women's team split their weekend series at home to Ellendale, North Dakota's Trinity Bible College Lions.

The women, who sit in fourth place in the Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, won 78-71 on Friday and the lost 78-65 on Saturday.

“We knew the implications of this weekend’s games on the NIAC standings as we faced the first-place team,” says head coach Joel Coursey. “Our win on Friday night was the biggest of our season and we couldn’t have done it without a strong team performance in which we had six players with double-digit point totals.”

The men also won on Friday with a score of 95-70, but then fell on Saturday 89-81.

Meanwhile, in futsal, the men and women lost to CMU on Friday with a score of 6-5 against the men and 4-0 against the women.
