The Steinbach Pistons got off to the start they hoped for but faded, eventually losing to the Wenatchee Wild 4-3 in their first game of the round robin.

It was an ideal start for the Pistons who came out of the gate hitting, driving play and eventually were rewarded when Luke Bellerose fired a shot from a bad angle that some how found it's way through Wild started Autin Park to give Steinbach a 1-0 lead. Brady Tatro and Mark Taraschuk had the assists on the first ever Steinbach Pistons RBC Cup goal.

Shortly after, a nice chip off the boards from Bradley Schoonbaert sprung Austin Heidemann who went in all alone on Park and eventualy slipped the puck 5-hole to push the lead to 2-0. Tristan Culleton also had an assist on the goal.

That would spell the end of the night for Park who was pulled after giving up 2 goals on 4 shots.

Steinbach continued to push but breakaways from both Jack Johnson and Drew Worrad were both turned away along with Heidemann in search of his second of the game.

The Wenatchee goalie gave his team a chance and he was rewarded when Jasper Weatherby was able to snap off a picture perfect wrist shot to cut the lead to 2-1 with less than a minute remaining in the first period.

After a couple more chances for the Wild, the horn sounded and Steinbach escaped with a 2-1 lead.

That didn't last long as just 20 seconds into the middle frame, it was Weatherby again scoring to knot the game up at 2-2.

Steinbach rarely touched the puck in the second period and were out shot 15-4 in the frame but the score remained deadlocked.

In the third, Steinbach grabbed the lead as Daniel McKitrick scored on a quick snap shot from the side of the net to put Steinbach back up 3-2. Tyson McConnell and Mark Wilson had the assists.

Wenatchee refused to go away and tied the game on a power play goal by Zak Galambos before the eventual game winned scored by the Wild captain A.J. Vanderbeck sealed the deal.

Steinbach fell 4-3 in their first ever RBC Cup game.

The power play was 0-2 while the penalty kill was 2-3.
