The Steinbach Pistons gave up goals early in the first and second periods while never really getting the offence going and again lost to the Portage Terriers 6-1 on Sunday night.

The Pistons surrendered the opening goal just :43 seconds into the game when Chase Brakel scored to make it 1-0 Portage.

Just over five minutes later, it was the Terriers power play clicking when Mackenzie Dwyer got a point shot through traffic and past Matt Radomsky to make it 2-0.

Steinbach had 2 power play opportunities but capitalized on neither while only managing 8 shots in the opening 20 minutes of play.

Things didn't get any better in the second period as Portage came out and scored two goals in 94 seconds. First, it was Brakel on the power play to push the lead to 3-0 before Logan Mihalcin scored his first as a Terrier to make it 4-0.

A tough night for Radomsky who surrendered 4 goals on 14 shots as he was replaced by Matthiew Thiessen after the 4-0 goal.

Thiessen didn't fare much better as defensive zone breakdowns continued and while still in the first half of the period, Brakel capped off the hat-trick scoring a short-handed goal to make it 5-0. Brakel had an even strength, power play and shorthanded goal.

The two teams traded goals in the third period.

Cole Oliver made it 6-0 Portage when a shot from the point found the back of the net.

Steinbach finally solved Lasse Peterson, even if it was Peterson that did the bulk of the damage himself. The goalie came out to play the puck but mishandled it and pushed it out in front of the wide-open net where Drew Worrad had an easy tap-in for his 10th of the season. The unassisted goal was the first against Portage in two games and came with just 24 seconds remaining.

Steinbach's lost their last 4 games and only managed a single point out of a possible eight.

The Pistons will look to right the ship on Wednesday when they host the Winnipeg Blues at the TG Smith Centre.
