The community came out on a beautiful Thursday afternoon to show their support for the Steinbach Pistons as they get ready to head off to Chilliwack, BC for the RBC Cup starting over the weekend.

Vice-President Claude Vielfaure knows it was a celebration 5 years in the making and still remembers the day the team was purchased by the current group. "It was August 7th that we announced we were buying the team and it was a journey. We won the cup the first year and we always thought it might be easy to win the second one, which it hasn't. So, this has been a fantastic year and to be going all the way to RBC, it's so special."

Many of the people that made their way to the community plaza outside the TG Smith Centre have been fans of the Pistons since they came to Steinbach and the love the community shares with the team is not lost on Vielfaure. "It's been tremendous. It was our dream, we wanted to build a fan base and our fans our the best in the league. Number one. We have 1000 fans every game no matter what and they come out and support the team with a lot of passion. The kids gave them a big reward this year and Paul (Dyck) and the coaches winning the cup and going to RBC, this is for them."

In Steinbach, it's not just about winning hockey games, it's also about building these young men up as people. "We've got such a great bunch of kids and billets, everyone loves them. They go to the schools and become a part of the community. The community really becomes attached to them, it's great to see."

The Steinbach Pistons' first game at the RBC Cup will be Sunday afternoon at 4 pm (Manitoba time). The pre-game show will start at 3:30 pm on Mix 96 and streaming live on SteinbachOnline.com.
