The wrap up to the MJHL Showcase on Wednesday night pitted a finals rematch between the Steinbach Pistons and the Virden Oil Capitals that didn't live up to the hype with Virden griding out a sleepy 2-1 overtime win.
The opening period saw Steinbach lead in shots 9-6 but neither team really got into a good flow, especially offensively and it remained scoreless through the opening 20 minutes.
In the second, there was a little more jump but still, neither team could get anything going and it remained scoreless after 40 minutes of play.
Finally, a breakthrough in the third when Virden opened the scoring on a power play with less than nine minutes remaining in the game.
Down by a goal, the Pistons added to their troubles taking a pair of penalties back-to-back which would help Virden kill some of the time remaining.
Steinbach was able to find the equalizer on a power-play of their own when Brendan Martin intercepted a breakout pass near the front of the net and cut across the crease, sliding home his 22nd of the year.
Despite a late push by Steinbach, the scored remained 1-1 and headed into overtime.
Virden would nab the extra point less than a minute into the extra frame and handed Steinbach a 2-1 loss.
Matt Lenz was solid in goal making 22 saves on the night, ensuring his team could claim at least a point.
The power play was 1-6 while the penalty kill was 5-6.
