The Steinbach Pistons winning streak stalled in Winkler on Tuesday night as the Flyers skated off with a 5-1 win.

To say these two teams don't like each other may be an understatement as the two heated rivals exchanged chances and bone jarring hits through the opening 20 minutes of play. Winkler came out fast and hard in the opening minutes of the period while Steinbach seemed to grab a little momentum heading into the break. It was scoreless after the first with the shots 9-8 Pistons.

In the second, two goals in the opening half of the period put Steinbach behind the eight-ball and they were just not able to get anything going in the way of offensive opportunities. The Pistons highlight was a spectacular display of goaltending from Roman Bengert, who slammed the door on a couple of Winkler Flyers chances in front not once, not twice but three times with his right bad.

Despite Bengert's efforts, the Pistons trailed 2-0 heading into the third.

Any chances for a comeback were quickly squashed as just 98 seconds into the third, Winkler struck again to make it 3-0. Captain Jordan Bochinski talked about needing to learn to bounce back when things aren't going your way. "After that third one went in, we lost a lot of momentum, that was a dagger. But, we need to keep our head up, every game isn't going to be perfect and obviously, we don't want to have these kinds of efforts but we'll have to bounce back (next game)."

The Flyers continued to pour it on with two more goals in the third to stretch to lead to 5-0 before Tyson McConnell scored the lone tally for the Pistons. The unassisted goal was McConnell's 9th of the season.

Bengert was solid in net, holding his team in it for as long as he could finishing the night with 31 saves. The power play finished 0-6 including a full two minute 5 on 3 in the third period, while the penalty kill went 3-5.

Frustrations boiled over in the third period as both Mack Graham and Riley Bruce fought for Steinbach. With the two teams set to meet again in Winkler January 24th, Bochinski knows that his team will remember what all happened on Tuesday night but not let it take away from what they need to do come game time. "I think there's a rivalry, we've had strong teams and good playoff series. We need to keep our emotions in check."
