The South East Prairie Thunder have earned a much needed day off in the team's quest of capturing their third National Senior “AAA” Hockey Championship.

The Prairie Thunder, who shutout the Stoney Creek Generals 3-0 on Tuesday, lost their final round robin game but still got a bye to the semifinals of the 2017 Allan Cup in Boutouche, New Brunswick.

Danny Chiasson scored 2:58 into overtime as Lameque edged South East 6-5 Wednesday afternoon.

The Prairie Thunder, Generals and Au Ptit Mousse all had 1-1 records but South East was awarded top spot in Division One because of it's better goal differential.

Matt Lowry and Reid Gow scored third period goals for the Prairie Thunder who went four-for-six with the man advantage.

Dane Crowley had a pair of goals and Tyler Dittmer also scored during a first period five-minute power play.

South East had a 3-2 lead after the first period but gave up three unanswered goals in a four-and-a-half minute span early in the middle frame.

The Prairie Thunder have Thursday off and will play in the semifinals on Friday.
