The Providence Pilots men and women both fell in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference championship.

The men won over the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers 1-0 on penalty kicks but then lost 1-0 to Les Rouges de I'Universite de Saint-Boniface, who won the championship trophy for the fourth year in a row. The women got taken by the Brandon University Bobcats 2-1 in their semi-final.

Women's head coach Tory Walker says, "It was a hard-fought match. We were not broken down defensively and played a great possession game against a very talented BU team. Their goalkeeper came up with some clutch saves. I'm proud of how we played and fought. It could have gone either way."

Joey Passi, men's coach, notes he's disappointed but finished with an 8-1-1 record.

In volleyball, the men played their first game in about a month's time in the MCAC and walked off the court with victories over the Blazers and Les Rouges.

“I couldn’t be more pleased to come out of this first weekend of league games with two wins,” says head coach Scott Masterson. “Hopefully we can carry this momentum into the rest of the season.”

The women also won their weekend matches against CMU and USB. The team will also be involved in NCCAA Regional action beginning Friday.

Meanwhile, the volleyball teams continue their pre-season schedule.

The men lost to Mayville State 111-52 but then rebounded to take Mayville's JV team 88-83. The women competed at International Falls, MN but came out with a series of no-score scrimmages.

"I think the scrimmages were valuable in showing growth and illuminating the areas that still need improvement before our season begins," says head coach Joel Coursey.

Next up for the Pilots basketball teams is a Friday-Sunday tournament in Bottineau, ND.
