The Steinbach Regional Secondary School will play one more hockey game.

Just 24 hours after losing the series opener 4-2, Ryan Friesen scored 6:54 into overtime to lift the Sabres to a 2-1 victory over Springfield on Tuesday at MTS Iceplex.

The Winnipeg High School Hockey League's best-of-three Free Press Division final is now tied at a game a piece.

"That was a ton of fun," said Friesen after game two. "We felt like we just needed to go out there and play our game. Game one we were were nervous so today we just kept it light in the room. We were laughing before the game. We were just keeping it light and we went our there and battled the whole entire game."

Eric Adams also scored for the Sabres while Logan Waskul had the lone goal for Springfield.

SRSS head coach Lawney Penner had huge praise for goaltender Oliver Peters who made 23 saves in game two.

"He is so confident and so composed," said Penner. "Big games don't seem to rattle him. He's won gold medal games for us in Winkler and Dryden and other tournaments. He's a very composed young man who deserves this."

Steinbach Regional and Springfield will play for the WHSHL Free Press Division championship banner on Thursday (4:30 p.m.) at MTS Iceplex.
