The Steinbach Regional Secondary School is guaranteed a playoff spot in the Winnipeg High School Football League's Junior Varsity Division with one week left in the regular season schedule.

The Sabres dropped a 48-12 decision to the Vincent Massey Trojans Wednesday in Winnipeg and saw their record fall to 3 and 2.

"That was a tough game filled with adversities and obstacles," texted SRSS head coach Kerry Friesen. "The wind was a large factor in the game that affected what our team was able to do on offense. In addition to this, we had a handful of players who were unable to play due to sickness or injury. I was proud how our boys responded and kept the game close going into the half."

Steinbach Regional running back Avery Penner had a five-yard touchdown scamper late in the second quarter which cut the Trojans lead to 20-12 but it was all Vincent Massey in the second half.

"We learned what it takes to compete at the highest level in this division," summarized coach Friesen. "We found out that we can move the ball and put points on the board. The goal now becomes how to sustain drives and produce points consistently, while slowing down the opposition's offensive attack."

The Sabres, who are playing in their inaugural season in the WHSFL's Junior Varsity Division, will face the Grant Park Pirates in their regular season finale Wednesday, October 25th in Winnipeg.

The SRSS is guaranteed the third seed in the playoffs and will take on the Oak Park Raiders in the semifinals the following week.
