The Eastman Selects have reached the quarter pole of the 2018-2019 Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League season.

Josh Beauchemin scored a shorthanded goal in the second period and also potted the shootout winner as Eastman rallied from a 2-0 first period deficit and defeated the Pembina Valley Hawks 3-2 Sunday in Beausejour extending the hockey team's winning streak to four games.

Selects captain Conrad Solypa said keeping that streak intact was huge.

"It was really big for our hockey team. We started out pretty slow at the beginning. It was nice to come out with the two points at the end."

Beauchemin, who is on a goal-a-game pace, got Eastman on the board when he scored his 12th of season 10 seconds after Hudson Chamberlin took a minor penalty for boarding.

"When you're going for a shorthanded shift, you're not expecting to score a goal but you are expected to work that much harder," Solypa said. "When you are working that much harder you will get more opportunities even when shorthanded like that."

Hunter Sexton also scored in regulation for Eastman.

Justin Powers stopped 23 shots in regulation and overtime.

The Selects netminder was perfect in the shootout stopping attempts by Michael Hlady, Roux Bazin and Andrew Boucher.

"The boys are working hard," said Eastman head coach Scott Wong. "We still have our ups and downs throughout a game but we seem to be managing it a lot better. We're starting to come together as a team and you can see that on the ice. One thing I like about this group is that there is no quit - there hasn't been all year."

The Selects (7-5) face the Interlake Lightning Wednesday at the Sun Gro Centre and then jump on the bus and head out to southwestern Manitoba this weekend.

Eastman will meet the Wheat Kings in Brandon on Saturday and the Southwest Cougars in Souris on Sunday.
