In the blink of an eye the Eastman Selects saw game one of the Manitoba Female AAA Midget Hockey League's best-of-five final slip away.

Hannah Petrie scored a power play goal at 12:50 of the middle period and Breanna Millions beat Selects goaltender Meagan Relf just 10 seconds later as the defending champion Pembina Valley Hawks defeated Eastman 3-1 Tuesday night in Morden.

Chelsea Dinnin had given the visitors a 1-0 lead as she banged home a rebound past Hawks goaltender Halle Oswald one minute into the second period.

The Selects had a number of chances to get on the board in the opening 20 minutes as they outshot Pembina Valley 18-8 but couldn't find the back of the net.

"I thought we outplayed them," said Eastman head coach Bill Bram. "We went to sleep and they got two goals. It was just one of those games. We had an unbelievable first period. We should have had two or three goals and that was the game. We let them back in with a dumb penalty and any team, you give them momentum, and it's going to backfire. It gave them life and they took it."

Makenzie McCallum added an empty net goal with 30 seconds left in regulation to seal the deal for the Hawks.

Game two goes Thursday (6:30 p.m.) in Ste. Anne.

"I think we'll definitely adjust our attitudes and work more together," replied Selects captain Alix Tosh when asked what the key is for game two. "Try to play all three periods rather than just the first and keep pushing."
